there are many places in which i do not find myself
trust me,
i've looked,
and i'm not under the bed ,
or in it with anyone, and I'm not in the closet (as far as i know)
and most of the time i am not in the corner of my eye.
(i am most positively out of the corner of most peoples' eyes)
-
i'm going to imagine myself outside, looking at the dead crow in the grass
and wondering exactly what this is a sign of.
i'm going to imagine myself finding a closet full of moths,
or an empty grave, that i'll be filling up
(but not with dirt)
or maybe i'll just see myself in a muddy puddle on the ground, and i'll be surprised that
this is where i found myself,
because this is not where i've ever found anything before
(except for dirty water)
and i'll lean down until i'm almost drowning in myself,
or maybe i'll be drowning in the puddle.
(that must be where i am.)
-
sometimes i am wrong,
more often than not am i wrong.
(am i wrong?)
when i had myself,
i used to hold my breath and threaten to myself that i would kill me.
but the good news is that i'll probably come back to me, now
once i find out that you can't die from holding your own breath.
you'll only pass out, and start breathing again.

my boy builds coffins he makes them all day
but it's not just for work and it isn't for play
he's made one for himself, one for me too
one of these days he'll make one for you
and most of the time i am not in the corner of my eye.
